There is a great need to protect the Intellectual Property (IP) of Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices. IAI will develop a FPGA protection tool, called OmniShield, which adopts a lightweight crypto primitive to protect the IP of FPGA devices. OmniShield is a combined software and hardware solution, capable of integrating the original design with its protection modules. Furthermore, users can configure the protection modules according to hardware constraints and security requirements. The resulting FPGA design is secure against a wide range of reverse-engineering attacks such as fault-injection, access pattern analysis, and reply. The concept and methodology of the solution will be applicable to various Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and military hardware. Finally, the OmniShield product will be integrated in a functional prototype to demonstrate the feasibility, uniqueness, and robustness of the technology. This product will be useful to military systems including missile guidance technology, aircraft, ships, and other vehicles with secure computing and Critical Program Information protection. Additionally, attention will be focused on minimal impact to system availability/maintainability, and seamless integration in the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) weapon platform. This technology will also be beneficial to the business, banking, and medical communities by improving their IP protection, as well as providing a more secure interface for their customers.
