Intelligent Automation, Inc. (IAI) was recognized today by the National Institute of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, for its R&D in Ballistic Identification. Enabled by grants from the NIJ and the National Science Foundation, and with the support of Baltimore County Police in the State of Maryland and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, IAI has developed unique 3D-based ballistic analysis methods that support the task of forensic examiners. The technology developed by IAI has enabled firearms and tool marks examiners to accurately and objectively compare fired bullets using topographical imagery, and to identify the firearms used to fire the bullets. This revolutionary capability has been patented and licensed by IAI to Forensic Technologies, Inc., serving the international police and military markets.
