DHS contracts IAI to develop Scalable and Reliable RF sensing for Long-Duration Personnel Tracking

The large scale, relative openness, and severe environmental conditions of the 4000 mile U.S.-Canada border pose unique technical challenges to securing it. As less than 1 percent of the border is under the operational control of the U.S. Border Patrol, a battery operated, Radio Frequency (RF) mesh network system could help detect illegal crossings in remote locations with a variety of foliage, and a range of severe environmental conditions including low temperatures and snow. To address this, IAI has developed a novel mesh networked Radio Frequency (RF) sensor GRIDLOCK. This system is based on IAI’s pre-existing ARGUS™ solution that can address a specific area of concern: the detection, localization and tracking of people in wooded terrain along the border. IAI has demonstrated the feasibility of using GRIDLOCK at the wooded US-Canada border. GRIDLOCK will now undergo extensive testing along the northern border as well as in the rugged terrain and dense foliage present at Marine Core Base Quantico (MCBQ).
