We design, develop, and customize sensor systems to the meet requirements of our clients by conducting system analysis, identifying the appropriate sensor architectures and sensors based on state-of-the-art components, implementing the sensor system, and demonstrating it in the relevant environment. IAI has extensive experience with a wide range of sensor modalities including electromagnetic, acoustic, optical, and electrical. We are also active in the simulation, test, and evaluation of sensor systems.

IAI’s high performance reconfigurable radar systems leverage state-of-the-art Digital Signal Processor (DSP), Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), Graphical Processing Unit (GPU), and multi-core processors. We are experts in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR), Phased Array Radar, and Digital Beamforming. Our custom electronic systems integrate radar, GPS, inertial navigation sensors, strain sensors, acoustic sensors, vision sensors, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, accelerometers, and light sensors. We develop devices with ultra low power electronics, power management solutions, and built-in wireless network communications.

IAI develops novel techniques for tracking cooperative or non-cooperative personnel and assets indoors, outdoors, and in GPS-denied environments. Techniques include the intelligent integration of GPS, RF ranging, RF fingerprinting, Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), inertial navigation, acoustic ranging, and computer vision to design the most cost-effective solutions for clients’ applications. IAI’s individual sensors and wireless sensor networks use Acoustic Emission (AE), Surface Acoustic Waves (SAW), ultrasonic transducers, strain sensors, and accelerometers to detect defects in composite, metallic, and concrete structures. IAI develops systems based on Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) to detect hard and soft faults in electrical cables for mission critical systems.

ARGUS™

ARGUS™ is a radio frequency based wireless fence for asset protection and intruder detection, with a unique carry-on design and low power consumption. ARGUS™ also offers intrusion detection, localization and tracking capability for protection of high-valued assets like aircraft.

JumpRecorder™

JumpRecorder™, developed by IAI, is a portable, network ready, sensor rich, data recording and management system for parachuting applications. JumpRecorder™ has a small form factor and low power design, allowing easy integration into existing parachute systems.

RFnest™

RFnest™ is the only network channel emulator that supports integration of real nodes and virtual radio/network nodes where the simulated and the real ones communicate seamlessly. Radios and systems tested via RFnest™ experience an RF environmental identical to a field test.

AUTO-SCAN

AUTO-SCAN automatically characterizes and registers surface defects in aircraft engine exhaust ducts. It captures defect characteristics, orientation and location relative to the aircraft coordinate system. AUTO-SCAN is portable, quick and easy to set up and tear down and suitable for fight-line environments. It is being developed to support legacy and emerging fighter aircraft as well as private and commercial aerospace sectors.

BridgeMonitor™

BridgeMonitor™ is an easy-to-use, continuous bridge structural integrity monitoring system. This wireless “trip-wire” system consists of surface-mounted PZT sensors and strain gauges that can be set up around the damage prone area (crack, corrosion, etc.) to detect the onset or growth of defects, collect data upon a triggering (strike/impact, severe overloading) or on schedule event, and alert the maintenance engineers of the crack size and location to any mobile device via MMS or SMS message.

WireCheck©

WireCheck® is an sensitive Time Domain Reflectometer designed to detect chafing and other soft faults in cables. Detecting chafes with sub-inch accuracy at over 200 ft, WireCheck® can simplify difficult troubleshooting tasks on aircraft and other systems where cable access is limited, and/or where faults are intermittent.

Our high fidelity electromagnetic simulation software tools help customers characterize effects of the host platform, and environmental effects like clutters and atmospheric phenomenon on system performance. Our expertise in EM simulation expertise includes full-wave simulation (FEM, MoM, FDTD), high frequency method, and antenna pattern generation with the effect of the platform and radar cross section.

IAI conducts extensive research and development in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE). We develop solutions for advanced material property characterization and high-valued structure defect detection and assessment, by leveraging our expertise in sensing technologies, signal processing, modeling and simulation, system integration and testing, and wireless in-situ monitoring. Our clients include the Air Force, Navy, Army, NASA, DOT and we have worked with several collaborators including Penn State University, Utah State University, SWRI, and Pratt & Whitney.

Our key strengths include ultrasonic guided wave technologies, wireless sensors, modeling and simulation, and system prototyping and instrumentation. We focus on the automation of data collection and processing, integration of emerging sensing modalities with wireless communication, high performance computing and microelectronics, and high fidelity material modeling and damage inspection simulation.
