Avoiding high cost, delays, and safety hazards of encountering subsurface utilities when digging is a prime concern for construction teams. Crowded urban areas with a cluttered subsurface such as urban environments pose the greatest risks because the precise location of existing utilities is often unknown.
IAI will create a system that can detect underground utilities and identify other safety hazards. The system will be accurate and precise enough to locate utilities in complex subsurface environments such as those found in urban corridors. The system will include robotics platform to autonomously map large areas and visualize them using 3D models.
