RUMI — Robotic Utility Mapping and Inspection System

RUMI autonomously surveys an area and constructs a 3D map displayed in Augmented Reality (AR) providing real time situational awareness. RUMI combines preexisting Building Information Modeling (BIM) data with a data from RUMI’s sensor package to identify assets and utilities both above ground and below the surface.

Robotic Platform

Autonomous robotic platform that scans a predefined areas while avoiding obstacles.

Advanced Sensor Package

Equipped with both subsurface and aboveground scanning sensors, a 3D map of the utilities/assets can be automatically
constructed.

Operator Console

Through the map-based user interface, operators can send RUMI to survey an area and displays the 3D asset map while it is being constructed.

AR Visualization

Operators can view utility and asset information mapped on the real world through AR visualizations.

Subsurface Mapping of a Construction Site

Pre-scan an area before construction to create a map of the underground space and verify the locations of pre-existing utility structures

Asset Management of Public Space

Periodically survey government-owned areas (e.g., public roads, highways, etc.), in order to ensure that the records of the assets and utilities are to date. Assets owned by private, state, county, or municipal entities are tracked and annotated in the 3D display.
