IAI’s RUMI Featured as U.S. Department of Transportation Success Story

RUMI, IAI’s Subsurface Scanning and Asset Data Management Tool, Featured as U.S. Department of Transportation Success Story

IAI’s Robotic Utility Mapping and Inspection (RUMI) system was recently featured on the DoT’s website for its outstanding success. Leveraging state-of-the-art robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the RUMI system is composed of an autonomous robot, handheld operator console, and cloud-based asset database server.

The RUMI robot is equipped with a 3D LiDAR sensor, a stereo camera, a real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS receiver, and a ground penetrating radar (GPR). RUMI autonomously surveys an area by following a systematic pattern generated by the AI-enabled onboard software, constructs a 3D map of underground utilities, and displays them in Augmented Reality (AR), providing real time situational awareness.
